Biography

A dedicated public servant and tireless advocate for his constituents, Senator Anthony R. Bucco was elected to the State Senate in November 1997. In 2002 he was elected Co-Majority Leader and now serves on the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans’ Affairs Committee, the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Joint Committee on Mentoring.

Senator Bucco is a fiscal conservative, committed to reducing our burdensome property taxes, and supporting family values, affordable health care, and the preservation of open space. Senator Bucco is also fighting to cut wasteful government spending and eliminate political corruption in New Jersey. He puts the needs of taxpayers, families and seniors first.

Two laws the Senator passed which he is especially proud of are: “Teri’s Law,” which requires stiffer penalties for those caught driving while intoxicated and the “Safe Haven Infant Protection Act,” which allows an individual to bring a baby less than 30 days old to any hospital emergency room or police station, safely, legally and anonymously.

Senator Bucco has consistently worked on environmental issues, supporting the preservation of farmland and historic land and millions of Green Acres. He has worked to save Pyramid Mountain, Holland Mountain, Sterling Forest, and many other similar projects throughout the region. Senator Bucco also sponsored legislation creating the “Lake Hopatcong Commission” which passed the Senate by a vote of 39-0.

In addition to his work in the legislature, Senator Bucco sits on the Board of Directors for the Boonton Baroque Orchestra, is a Trustee for the Saint Clare’s Health Services Foundation, Morris Tomorrow, and the Morris County Urban League. He is on the Corporate Advisory Board of Angel Connections; a member of the Board for A Child in All of Us Foundation; a Board member of Morris County Prevention is Key; a member of the Board of Advisors for the Dover Community Clinic; a member of the Capital Campaign Committee for El Primer Paso; member of the Advisory Board of the Roots & Wings Foundation and, a member of the Pyramid Mountain Committee.

A dedicated public servant, Republican Senator Anthony Bucco began his political career in 1978 as an Alderman in Boonton, where he later served as it’s Board President, as the Mayor of Boonton, and he then was elected a Morris County Freeholder and then to the State Assembly. Anthony Bucco and his wife of over 40 years, Helen, have one son, Anthony, who is married to his wife Amy with their six children.

2007 Recent Awards and Recognition

2007 -- the NJ Deputy Fire Chief’s Association presented Bucco with a plaque for tirelessly working on behalf of firefighters and other emergency service organizations throughout the State. He was named Honorary Chief by the Boonton Fire Department and the Newark Fire Department.


Was recently awarded the “Christopher Columbus Citizenship Award”
by the Italian-American Police Society.


The New Jersey County Jail Wardens Association chose Bucco Legislator of the Year
and awarded him honorary membership in the association.
