Issues
My family settled in the Boonton area in the late 1800’s and I have been a lifelong resident of Boonton. I understand the issues affecting the taxpayers, families, and seniors in my district. As a result, I have worked tirelessly to make state government work for you — not the other way around.
Through tax relief, fiscal responsibility, and ethics reform we can begin to get New Jersey back on track. Since the Democrats took control of Trenton 5 years ago, property taxes have increased 35%, they’ve added $6 billion in new state taxes, spending has increased by $11 billion, and $37.5 billion in new debt has been pushed onto our children and grandchildren. Additionally, we have all watched as our state has become
overwhelmed with political corruption. This must end and those convicted must be punished.
As your Senator and public servant I am committed to ensuring that the best interests of taxpayers, families, and seniors are represented in Trenton and here at home.
This includes:
1) Reducing Our Property Taxes;
2) Cutting Wasteful State Spending; and
3) Eliminating Political Corruption.

State Senator Anthony Bucco
Reduce Property Taxes
I’ve signed the National Taxpayers Protection pledge
(http://www.atr.org/pledge/national/index.html) against raising taxes. As a fiscal conservative, I have voted against all six Democrat budgets that have increased state spending by $11 billion. I have introduced two important pieces of legislation in an effort to reduce the property tax burden. The first bill would reduce the school property tax burden on senior residents of the State who are 65 years or older by 50%. The second would increase the property tax deduction for Veterans’ to $500 over the next four years.
Cut Wasteful State Spending
I, along with fellow Republican Senators, have proposed over $3 billion in spending cuts in the past two years, but those cuts have fallen on the deaf ears of Democrats. I am committed to cutting wasteful spending and this cannot be done through temporary bandages such as selling our toll roads. Real fiscal restraint must be used and I am leading that fight.
Eliminate Political Corruption
I have fought for and voted for the toughest ethics reform and anti-corruption bills in the state’s history. The recent arrest of 11 public officials only underscores the need for these tough laws, which Democrats have wavered on. I voted to deny pension benefits to elected officials convicted of crimes. I voted to ban dual public office holding for all elected officials and successfully fought to make it illegal to lobby former colleagues after leaving elected office.
Preserve Open Space
I have worked tirelessly to bring funding back for the preservation of land through Green Acres, Historic, and Farmland preservation funds. Most notably I was able to get the Senate to unanimously pass legislation establishing the Lake Hopatcong Commission to oversee the operation of our state’s largest lake. The Commission was created to ensure the preservation of natural, scenic, and recreational resources of Lake Hopatcong in the wake of encroaching threats to the area. I will continue to fight for the necessary state funding to ensure that the Lake receives the attention it deserves.
